Rioting in the Streets of Kampala! Manna Postponed!

September 16, 2009

That’s right! Rioting broke out in the streets of Kampala last week. Uganda is one of Africa’s most stable and safest countries, but feuding broke out between the Buganda tribe and the government. The result was that several people were killed and injured before calm was restored. Hopefully, this is not a precursor to the elections in 2011. We need to pray now for a safe and calm election!

Because of the rioting and unrest our team in Kampala had to postpone the food distribution until yesterday. Here is the story of Birungi Rose one of the many receiving help through Manna. Pray for her and the others the Lord is allowing us to care for and pray that there is no more civil unrest.

I got separated from my husband 7 years back. I recently tested positive with the virus HIV and I am scheduled to start on ARVs in October this year.

I have 3 children to feed; one of them, a son who struggles to fend for the family since I am sick now. I am renting a one-room house for 30,000 shillings. The kids are of school age and having the necessary school fees are one of the challenges we face. But the greatest challenge is what to eat! And so the food Manna provides for us came in my moment of crisis!

The food has helped feed us and now we are saving money in order to take care of whats in the future. Please do pray for me about my health and to get a job when I get well enough to work.”
