Voices From the Tent

February 24, 2009

We had planned to do the food distribution in Butabika parish but with a specific focus on BIINA ZONE for this zone is situated in the heart of a very large Moslem community. They even own a very big school and mosque in this area. And for us here to see a very large mosque and educational center for the Moslems in a community, that’s a sign that this is a Moslem stronghold. For they do not build where they are out-numbered! They build where they are prominent and significantly out-numbering other religions… e.g. Christians!

We did have a very sunny day and hot! Thanks be to God for the tent! We did have lots of people come and we did have small groups with them and 12 people prayed to receive Jesus as lord and savoir!

Manna beneficiaries small group went great! And from these follow-up starts this coming Monday amongst them.

One of the Manna beneficiaries that Mt Zion team visited with has offered her place as a venue for the house church to meet in, on Mondays! Her name is called Khana…(luganda translation for Hanna).

It’s always great to put an ear to what the people around the distribution tent are saying! Most times we have missed it because we are not paying any attention to what is going on innocently loud. Instead our eyes and ears are fixed on the obvious things going on around at that time. Sometime brethrens around the tent have chosen to catch up with their friends instead of looking out for these that Jesus has brought close to us through the tent. Oh, how we have missed it! We have missed to hear the heart of God as He blesses His people! And hear from the heart of the people who are receiving the blessing!

So this time as a person who has learnt the hard way! I bring you the words of a resident of BIINA ZONE, a lady who is near the tent of distribution on this day!

“Even that drunkard, that poor neglected lady is receiving food! That lady was really suffering! But she is a drunkard! If you people can give a person who is so needy in her life regardless of her background, food? She is a drunkard though not by choice but conditioned to so by her suffering! You people have made me see and understand the heart of God! This for me is like mercy undeserved!

Hey, I did not receive the food but I received a bible! The food at least I can get from my humble business, but a bible in my language is too expensive for me. I have prayed for it and just now I received one! Praise be to God! I really lacked the word of God, even as I wanted to share with my neighbors! God can give!! Am really glad that you people have come! And now some have received the food, I received the bible! Everybody received what he or she really needed the most! These people who brought the food and bibles have a very different heart, they have loved on us even if some of us are not worthy of any love to receive! Imagine a drunkard in need, received her share of food given by born-gains!

So that is what you would hear! And near the tent they’re all kinds of words but discernment and looking and listening to what is loudly going on around the tent of distribution would bless your heart! Just I as I am today!!
